Satya means “truth” and Narayana means, “the highest being” so Satyanarayan means “the highest being who is an embodiment of Truth”. It’s well established in all the Scriptures (Shastras) and Vedas, that Shree Shree Satyanarayan Bhagwan is the supreme God representing all other Divinities including the Creator (Bramha), the Sustainer (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva).
Shree Shree Satyanarayan Bhagwaan has been the Ishta Deva, or “cherished divinity” from iṣṭa “desired, liked, cherished, preferred” and devatā “godhead, divinity, tutelary deity” or deva “deity” of Bagla Community since the very beginning.
Raja Raibahadur Shewbuxjee Bagla started the Holi procession or Shobhayatra or Sawari of Shree Shree Iswar Satyanarayanji and other Deities in Calcutta in 1883.
On 10th May 1983, Raja Raibahadur Shewbuxjee Bagla constructed a Temple for Shree Shree Iswar Satyanarayanjee and other Deities at 51, Cotton Street, Calcutta.
The extra space of the Temple Houses are utilized in the best possible manner – providing its best services to the Devotees and the economically weaker sections of the Society.
All festivals of serval incarnation of deities are being held at Calcutta Temple including decorations, distribution of Prasad, processions and theistic exhibition.
Everyday Prasad is distributed to more than hundreds of Devotees. During the Festivals and Sawari, the sanctified food is distributed to around 10,000 people.
