The manufacturing process and classification of adhesive tapes

Adhesive tape is the most commonly used packaging and sealing tool, which is also kept on the desk of office stationery. Adhesive tapes are generally used for packaging products for shipment, office paper sticking, paper tape decorating notebooks, and many more. Here is a general step-by-step process for making adhesive tape:

  1. Polypropylene Film in Unwinder

Over the globe, the production of various tapes takes place that, includes shipping tape, electrical tape, and so on, but in the case of adhesive tape, the manufacturing process starts with polypropylene which is ultimately the film of plastic.

  1. Unwinding Rolls onto Splicing Tape

After unwinding rolls, its end sticks onto the splicing tape at the initiation of the next row. After unwinding, its end will stick to the beginning of the next and the process repeats.

  1. Automatic Tension Adjuster

The role of the automatic tension adjuster is to make sure that the machine pulls the film evenly to prevent it from ripping.

  1. Application of Solvent

A solvent is applied to the unwinder to the film surface. By following this, the film does not stick while unrolling. To convert the film into a tape, the machine makes a coat over one side with a hot adhesive made from several ingredients.

  1. Preheated Holding Tank

Once the pre-mentioned steps are accomplished, loading of hot melt into a preheated holding tank takes place. This helps in keeping them out at a piping 390 degrees Fahrenheit. This prevents the tape manufacturers from hardening the tank pump’s adhesive to a machine called the blower. Later then, it wipes away the excess and rolls the film.

  1. Use of a Cooling Roller

A cooling roller is placed on the top immediately to make it harder. A computerized sensor ensures an even coating of adhesive. It directly transmits the signals to the pump to adjust the output if there is not.

  1. Rewinder Machine

The rewinder machine rolls the tape into spools. The rewinder machine unsliced them.   1. Slitter Machine

There is an average length of 85 football field tape on the manufactured spools. The spool speeds a row of sharp razor blades, which are technically known as the slitters. The role of slitters is to divide the five-foot-wide tape into several strips.

  1. Finished Tape Rolls

Each strip winds on a tilled cardboard core and is sealed with the tab. The length of tape per roll varies as per the specifications of the client’s order. The machine ejects the tape rolls in the next batch. This part is not included in the department of packaging.

Paper Tape

PVC Adhesive Tape

The PVC material is a polyvinyl chloride polymer that comes from petroleum. It is the most versatile plastic derivative of petroleum.

Along with this, PVC tape has elastic properties. This material has greater elasticity than polypropylene. This is all because of its property, which says it is ideal for closing boxes with heavy loads.
